Wise Ranker vs PageSpeed Insights
PageSpeed Insights is Google’s free tool for measuring Core Web Vitals on a single URL. Wise Ranker is a paid whole-site audit that covers SEO, security, legal, UX and AI visibility. They’re not really competitors — here’s the honest comparison anyway, because a lot of site owners genuinely wonder if PSI is enough.
The short version
Google PageSpeed Insights (PSI) is a free tool from Google that measures page speed and Core Web Vitals for a single URL using Lighthouse and the Chrome UX Report (CrUX) real-user field data. It gives a 0–100 performance score and audits for accessibility, best practices, and SEO basics on that one page. Instant, free, authoritative for its scope — and scoped narrowly to page-level performance.
Wise Ranker is a paid, one-off, whole-site strategic audit. Standard is £29.99, Premium £49.99. Instead of scoring one URL for speed, it crawls the whole site and runs 100+ deterministic checks plus seven specialist AI analysts across technical SEO, content, UX and conversion (with page-level screenshots), web security, legal compliance (jurisdiction-aware), paid search, and AI search visibility — then a Senior AI Strategist synthesises it into a single ranked action list with commercial impact for each item.
Use PageSpeed Insights when you want a fast free speed score for one page. Use Wise Ranker when you want to know what’s wrong with your website overall and what to fix in what order. The two coexist happily — PSI covers the 10% of the picture Google cares about most; Wise Ranker covers the other 90%.

Where they differ, and why it matters
Scope
PageSpeed Insights tests one URL at a time. Its core purpose is measuring Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) using both lab data from Lighthouse and 28-day field data from the Chrome UX Report (CrUX) — the same data that feeds Google’s ranking signals. Around that it runs Lighthouse’s Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO audits, giving each a 0–100 score. Focused. Deep on speed. Doesn’t cover the wider site.
Wise Ranker crawls the whole site (typically dozens or hundreds of pages depending on scale) and runs 100+ deterministic checks plus seven specialist AI analyst passes across technical SEO, content quality, UX and conversion (with screenshot analysis of key pages), web security, legal compliance with UK/US jurisdiction detection, paid search (if you provide ad data at Premium), and AI search visibility (GEO / ChatGPT / Perplexity / Claude / Copilot).
What the output looks like
PageSpeed Insights shows four scores (Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO), the Core Web Vitals field assessment (pass/fail), and a categorised list of Lighthouse opportunities and diagnostics with technical detail on each. You’ll get "Eliminate render-blocking resources — save 1.2s" style recommendations, aimed at a developer.
Wise Ranker produces a single PDF report structured around a ranked Priority Actions list. Each finding has a plain-English summary of the business impact ("this is why it matters to your bottom line") and a technical instruction ("this is what a developer needs to change"). One document, two audiences.
Pricing
PageSpeed Insights is free. No card, no account, no limits on how many times you run it. It’s Google’s own tool and the field data comes directly from Chrome users on your site. Nothing to compare here — if you don’t use PSI at least occasionally, you’re missing free authoritative data about your Core Web Vitals.
Wise Ranker is £29.99 (Standard) or £49.99 (Premium), one-off. It uses PageSpeed data as one of the inputs to its performance analysis, alongside the other 100+ checks and seven analyst passes. You’re not paying for the data PSI provides for free — you’re paying for the whole-site crawl, the six other analyst domains, the synthesis and prioritisation, and the plain-English translation.
Whole-site coverage
PageSpeed Insights tests one URL per run. To audit a whole site you’d manually enter each URL, one at a time, and collate the results yourself. There’s no built-in crawl, no cross-page summary, no site-wide prioritisation. Google’s Search Console adds a Core Web Vitals report at site level, but that’s a separate tool with 28-day rolling data and no diagnostic depth on individual pages.
Wise Ranker’s Playwright crawler discovers pages via navigation, sitemap, and structural links, then audits the whole site in one pass. The report tells you which issues are site-wide vs page-specific, and prioritises accordingly.
What each covers that the other doesn’t
PageSpeed Insights covers, better than Wise Ranker: real-user Core Web Vitals field data from Chrome (which is what Google actually uses for ranking); detailed frame-by-frame lab breakdowns; Google-branded credibility when reporting to stakeholders.
Wise Ranker covers, that PSI doesn’t touch: whole-site crawl and cross-page analysis, business-impact framing for each finding, prioritisation across categories, legal compliance (UK GDPR / PECR / CCPA / COPPA / FTC / DMCA), UX and conversion analysis of key pages including screenshots, web security beyond HTTPS, AI search visibility, paid search analysis, keyword ranking snapshots, content quality analysis, Google Business Profile analysis, and a single ranked action list rather than four separate scores.

Pick the one that matches your job (or use both)
Wise Ranker is right for you if…
- You want to know what’s wrong with your whole site, not just one page’s speed
- You want business context and prioritisation, not just Lighthouse scores
- You care about legal compliance, UX, AI visibility, and security — not just performance
- You want a ranked to-do list you can act on or hand to your developer
- You’re not a developer and PSI’s output feels alien
- You’ve run PSI, fixed the obvious things, and still don’t know what else to do
- You want an independent second opinion beyond Google’s own metrics
PageSpeed Insights is right for you if…
- You want to check a specific URL’s speed right now
- You need Google’s own Core Web Vitals field data (the real ranking signal)
- You’re a developer diagnosing a specific performance problem
- You want free, instant, no-account tooling
- You’re monitoring one page over time and need consistency with Google’s own metric
- You want an authoritative source to reference when reporting to stakeholders
- Speed is the only dimension you’re currently trying to move
Use PageSpeed Insights too
PSI is free, it’s from Google, and it’s the source of truth for Core Web Vitals field data. Wise Ranker uses PageSpeed data as one of many inputs into its performance analysis, but nothing replaces going straight to Google’s own tool for the speed picture. If you haven’t run PSI against your key pages recently, do that. It’s five minutes and it’s the fastest way to see whether Google thinks your site is fast enough.
Where Wise Ranker earns its price is answering the other 90% of the question — "yes, my Core Web Vitals are fine, but what else is wrong with my site, and what should I fix first?" — a question PSI doesn’t (and doesn’t try to) answer.
Frequently asked
Isn’t PageSpeed Insights enough on its own?
If speed is the only dimension you care about — yes, PSI is the right tool and there’s no reason to pay for anything more. If you also want to know about SEO structure across the site, security, legal compliance, UX, content quality, AI visibility, and paid search, PSI doesn’t cover those. That’s the gap Wise Ranker fills.
Does Wise Ranker use PageSpeed Insights data?
Yes. The report pulls PageSpeed Insights data for representative pages as part of the performance analysis, and includes it alongside our own crawl-based measurements. We don’t try to reinvent Google’s own metric — we build on it.
Can PageSpeed Insights scan my whole site at once?
No — PSI is a single-URL tool. For site-level Core Web Vitals data, Google Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report shows aggregated 28-day pass/fail by page group. For a diagnostic whole-site audit that also covers SEO, security, legal, UX, and content, Wise Ranker crawls the whole site and reports on every dimension in one PDF.
I got a low PSI score. Will Wise Ranker tell me how to fix it?
Partly. Wise Ranker will highlight performance issues site-wide, explain the likely commercial impact of slow pages, and give developer-ready technical direction on the biggest wins. For the deepest per-URL performance forensics, PSI (or its underlying Lighthouse) is still the right tool — think of the two as complementary rather than substitutes on speed specifically.
Why pay for Wise Ranker when Lighthouse and PSI are free?
Because Lighthouse and PSI don’t answer "what’s wrong with my site overall and what should I fix first?" — they answer "how fast is this page and what would Google’s automated audit say about it?" Different questions. Wise Ranker’s value is the whole-site scope, the six analyst domains PSI doesn’t cover, the prioritisation across categories, and the plain-English commercial framing. If speed is your only question, save your £29.99 and use PSI.
Should I run PageSpeed Insights before I buy Wise Ranker?
Sure — there’s no reason not to. Run PSI on your homepage and a couple of key pages. If your Core Web Vitals are green and speed is your only concern, you may not need anything else. If they’re red, or if you suspect there’s more going on than speed, that’s exactly when a Wise Ranker audit gives you the wider picture.
How can I try Wise Ranker without paying first?
Run the free automated check — enter your URL, get a snapshot report by email in a few minutes. No payment, no card, no account. Also read a full sample report from a real audit.
